CHDK – IXUS 70 – OS X
Just packing for the trip, think I might buy a big (bigger than the 1GB I have now) SD card for Sunday and Tuesday, but the current one I have is USD, so I’ve never had to use a cable.
The event on Sunday is pretty crazy, which is why I think I’ll need another card. It’s a concert for Obama, performers include:
Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, U2, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Herbie Hancock, John Legend, Usher, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am, and Stevie Wonder. Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington will be there too!
The whole thing is only 90 minutes long though, oddly.
So anyway, I tried just turning on the camera (a Canon IXUS 70/SD1000), plugging it into OS X, see what would happen.
It didn’t appear anywhere, not in Finder, not in iPhoto, not in Disk Utility.
I thought there was something about proprietary software for IXUS models, so I’d a look around online, but it seems the software is only on the original disk you get with the camera. I doubt it was ever opened, it’s probably still lying around at home. So there was now way I was going to be able to get that (it’s a joke you can’t download it anyway), and I was thinking I’d be able to get an SD card, but not get the photos off the camera.
Turns out the camera misbehaves if you’ve got CHDK installed – formatted the card, back into the camera, plug the camera in, turn it on and set to view photos, open iPhoto, done!
Use OS X’s Image Capture.app and it’ll get the photos off.
